Colic

Colic is a disorder that noone can perdict the outcome of. Out of all the horse deaths colic accounts for nearly 40%. Each and every horse acts differently to pain. Colic actually causes severe abdominal pain, so knowing how your horse reacts to different types of pain and situations can be a huge help.

Symptoms

Do you believe your horse has colic? Here is a list of some common signs of colic.

  • Lying on the ground rolling and scratching
  • Pawing the ground.
  • Curling their upper lip repeatedly
  • Standing stretched out
  • Kicking at their abdomen
  • Rapid breathing
  • Accelerated pulse

Sometimes in severe cases horses act uncontrolably violent. If this is the case make sure to contact your vet immediately.
